My Original Work

My original work is due in one week. Pacing myself and working in my own time has been an interesting experience. Because of the extremely structured curriculum and nature of school, I haven' t gotten many opportunities to work on such a large project with no guidelines. As someone who tends to regularly ask others for their plans and for other guidance in order to ensure that I am moving in the correct direction, I was worried that working on an original work that was completely unique in its contents and progress made would be difficult for me.
This worry proved to be for naught. I have been enjoying the experience of creating my original work. Despite my workload for junior year, I have paced myself well and am headed toward finishing just in time. Deadlines that are farther away tend to be stressful, but this proves to be an exception.
I am creating a trend analysis and market research report on the fashion industry. I wanted to analyze any sector of business and, as fashion is constantly changing and is interesting to me, it has turned out to be the perfect candidate for this project. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to learn more about the industry and am surprised at how much I already know. I am analyzing its current competition, economic indicators, environmental incentives, rising trends, and identifying potential problems or areas of growth.
Admittedly, I' m not sure how long this report will end up being. Everything that I have worked on thus far has proven to be long and extend off of the one-page-per-topic format I had initially planned for. I may end up having to reduce the amount of topics I cover and instead write more extensive analysis on fewer topics.
At the very least, I am very happy to be enjoying myself. This has certainly been the highlight of ISM, as getting to put my skills to the test and learning more about a personal interest at the same time has proven to be very rewarding.
I hold out hope that this final week of compiling my research will remain as smooth, however I have a suspicion that this final stretch will be more of a struggle. Either way, getting to learn about topics ranging from 3D body scanning to an increasing trend of socks that can "hold hands" with one another has left me with much new information to discuss with others.
